Sergei is an Associate at Pinna Goldberg’s office in Washington, D.C.  He is an attorney specializing in commercial litigation before U.S. courts and international arbitration.

Sergei is a dual-qualified attorney, admitted to practice in both Russia and the United States (New York).  He has participated in numerous proceedings representing private companies and sovereign states.  He has represented major international and Russian corporations before Russian courts and arbitral tribunals, and also has experience advocating for private entities and foreign governments in U.S. courts in complex international disputes, including matters involving the enforcement of foreign arbitral awards and the impact of foreign sanctions.

Sergei focuses his practice on complex multijurisdictional disputes before national courts and international tribunals.  He has appeared in matters involving international, U.S., Russian, and EU law, and has represented clients across various industries, including technology, manufacturing, oil production, and finance. He currently acts on behalf of several foreign sovereigns in proceedings concerning the enforcement of investment treaty arbitration awards.

Sergei’s work experience includes representing:

  • A foreign sovereign in the international expropriation case in the U.S.;
  • A foreign bank in a dispute arising out of the effect of foreign sanctions in the U.S.;
  • A major U.S. IT company in Russian court proceedings concerning the effect of foreign sanctions;
  • The defense of a foreign businessman during the recovery of a US$270 million loan in an attempted seizure of his assets in Russia;
  • The defense of an international corporation in commercial arbitration arising out of a multi-million oil sale contract.
